Riverside glamping in Tolima

A profile that lists a river doesn't tell you what the water is like. In some places the river runs beside the unit and you hear it at night; in others you have to go down a trail to a swimming hole. Two of these four glamping sites also have a pool, which is useful if the river is high or the current isn't inviting. Ask whether there is a safe spot for swimming, whether the host warns you when the flow rises and whether you can go with children. And if the plan is just to listen to the water, ask how far it is from your bed.

In Melgar, Mangoo Glamping offers a chalet with a fireplace and a pool in addition to the river, and is advertised for couples. River Glamping Melgar, in the same municipality, has the river in its name and is listed as glamping with no specific type. In the municipality of Ibagué, Glamping Refugio Arco Iris combines river and lake, and is also advertised for couples. And in the north, in Falan, Glamping Ciudad Perdida Falan adds a jacuzzi, pool, fireplace and view to the river. It is the only one of the four with all of that at once.

The city you set out from decides which one suits you best:

• Bogotá: 3, the two in Melgar and the one in Falan.
• Ibagué: 1, Glamping Refugio Arco Iris, inside the municipality.
• Manizales, Pereira and Armenia: none in their area.
